The Driehaus Museum occupies the Samuel M. Nickerson House, an 1883 marble-clad mansion once called the most expensive private residence in Chicago. Restored by collector Richard H. Driehaus and opened to the public in 2008, its period rooms pair original Herter Brothers furniture and Lincrusta wall coverings with more than 1,500 objects from the Driehaus Collection, including one of the country's most significant holdings of Louis Comfort Tiffany glass. A 2024 expansion added the neighbouring 1926 Murphy Memorial Auditorium, which now hosts special exhibitions and contemporary commissions. Temporary shows range from nineteenth-century American sculpture to the museum's A Tale of Today series of living artists.
