MAAM is the teaching museum of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, opened in February 2020 in the renovated Bakalar and Paine galleries at the front of the campus on Huntington Avenue. It runs as a kunsthalle: it collects nothing, so the Bakalar Gallery, the Stephen D. Paine Gallery and the lobby are rehung with new commissions and solo shows several times a year. Admission is always free, with no ticket or booking, and the entrance sits directly across the street from the Longwood Medical Area stop on the Green Line E, a few minutes' walk from the Museum of Fine Arts. Between exhibitions the museum shuts for installation, so it is worth checking the dates before travelling.
