The Brücke-Museum holds the world's largest collection of works by Die Brücke, the Expressionist artists' group of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Max Pechstein. It grew from a donation by Schmidt-Rottluff, later joined by a large gift from Heckel, and opened in 1967 in a single-storey building by Werner Düttmann set in woodland in Dahlem. Around 400 paintings and sculptures and thousands of works on paper are shown in changing exhibitions, while the wooded grounds host contemporary art and a nature trail.
