Spadina Museum is a historic mansion atop the Davenport ridge, home to three generations of the Austin family after financier James Austin, founder of the Dominion Bank, bought the estate in 1866. Donated to the city with its furnishings in 1982 and opened as a museum in 1984, it tells the story of Toronto from 1900 to the 1930s through the family and the staff who worked in service there. Interiors range from mid-Victorian to Colonial Revival, with Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces, and the house is surrounded by restored 1920s-30s gardens with an orchard, grape arbour and kitchen garden.
