The inaugural institutional exhibition of South Australian ceramic artist Jordan Gower, exploring functional craft and contemporary art through layered glazes and repetition.
Jordan Gower's day job is plates. His production studio, Aburi, makes bespoke tableware for South Australian restaurants and wineries, and he is Head of Ceramics at Adelaide's JamFactory. This is his first exhibition in a public gallery, and the new work starts from that day job: forms and surfaces he developed as a production potter, reworked as objects to stand in front of rather than eat from.
Everything is wheel-thrown. The gallery points to layered glazes, very little ornament, and a focus on shadow, line and repetition.
Go if you care how a pot is made. Gower's show shares the building with Heather B. Swann and Remy Faint, so one trip covers all three. Entry is free, Wednesday to Friday 10am to 5pm and weekends from noon, until 22 November. There's a lift, and prams are welcome.
You want colour and decoration: the gallery stresses restrained forms, layered glazes and minimal ornament.
The gallery has lift access and welcomes prams.
