Founded in 1873 by Artur Hazelius, who also created Skansen, Nordiska museet is Sweden's largest museum of cultural history, covering life in the Nordic region from the 1500s to today. Its Isak Gustaf Clason building, inaugurated in 1907, draws on Danish Renaissance castles, and its vast Great Hall is presided over by Carl Milles's statue of Gustav Vasa. Highlights include the Nordic Life exhibition, historic table settings, a 1940s flat, dolls' houses and the Arctic, plus the Time Vault for children.
