Medelhavsmuseet, founded in 1954 by merging the Egyptian Museum and the Cyprus Collection, holds ancient objects from Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Rome and the Near East. Since 1982 it has occupied the Gustav Horn palace on Fredsgatan, a former bank hall. Highlights include 3D-scanned mummies, the 7,000-year Cyprus Collection, Greek vases, Roman portraits and a Gold Room of ancient jewellery. It is part of the National Museums of World Culture, and admission is free for everyone under 19.
