Housed in the colonial-era Empress Place Building on the Singapore River, the Asian Civilisations Museum explores the shared cultures of China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and West Asia through trade, faith and material art. Its centrepiece is the Tang Shipwreck collection, over 60,000 ceramics and gold and silver objects salvaged from a 9th-century trading vessel. Thematic galleries cover ancient religions, Islamic and Christian art, and the scholarly traditions of Chinese culture, alongside a rotating programme of major international loan exhibitions.
