SONGEUN is a nonprofit contemporary art space founded in 1989 by the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation to support Korea's emerging artists. Its dramatic triangular home in Cheongdam-dong, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and completed in 2021, was the Swiss firm's first realized project in Korea. The foundation's flagship SONGEUN Art Award has championed contemporary Korean artists since 2001, and the building's wood-grain-textured concrete facade evokes the meaning of its name, "Hidden Pine Tree."
