iBuilt 1698–1708 for Count Wenzel Adalbert of Sternberg and attributed to Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, this High Baroque palace on Hradčanské náměstí became the founding seat of the National Gallery Prague in 1947. Its Old Masters II exhibition spans five centuries of European painting, from Nikodim Kondakov's Russian icon collection and Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Italian primitive-school pictures to Dutch, Flemish and Central European Baroque works by Bruegel, Rubens, van Dyck and Goya. A quiet Baroque garden behind the palace, dotted with modern Czech sculpture, reopens to visitors each spring.
