Glass and ceramic works by Anna Polanská and Pavla Vachunová in a silent dialogue exploring nature, memory and craftsmanship.
On Pavla Vachunová's porcelain vases, the flowers grow out of the surface: stems, leaves and blossoms worked into the texture of the clay. Beside them stand Anna Polanská's pieces in blown, cast and fused glass, which she grinds and engraves again and again until a figure in a landscape comes through.
The two are friends who worked apart for years and found their themes kept returning to the same place: landscape, and the pictures they carry from childhood. They also show new pieces made together, glass and porcelain in one object. You find it on the mezzanine, inside DOX by Qubus, the design shop that already stocks Polanská among its 90 designers. It's the one show at DOX you reach by heading straight for the gift shop.
It's free: the design shop needs no DOX ticket, and a ramp leads up just behind reception. Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 19:00, until 31 December.
Vachunová's flowering porcelain vases
Look closely at the vase surfaces, where stems, leaves and blossoms rise out of the porcelain as delicate texture rather than sitting on top of it.
Polanská's engraved glass
Objects, reliefs and vases in blown, cast and fused glass, ground and engraved with lines and organic motifs until a human figure in a landscape appears.
The joint glass and porcelain pieces
New works made by the two together, where glass and porcelain share one object as equal parts instead of competing.
