iMatadero MadridLegazpi
An open-air show of 21 portraits by photographer Jesús Ugalde of 1990s Spanish music and film stars, hung on the outside of Nave 15.
The first picture is the one Jesús Ugalde kept to himself for years. In 1988, in his early twenties, he hid behind a column on the set of Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios and caught a glass of gazpacho hitting Carmen Maura in the face, with Almodóvar directing.
It's the only spontaneous shot here, as Que.es pointed out. The rest are the poses the title refers to: 21 portraits of 1990s music and film stars, printed large on the outside wall of Nave 15. Record-label work for Sony, Universal and Warner got Ugalde into studios, so you get Los Rodríguez recording Sin documentos and La Oreja de Van Gogh's first photo session. Martirio spent years asking him not to show the one without her sunglasses; you'd have just untagged yourself.
You see it from Plaza Matadero, not inside a gallery. Entry is free, there are no tickets, it's up during the centre's opening hours, and Matadero lists it until the end of December.
Carmen Maura and the gazpacho
Look for the 1988 shot from the Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios set, taken from behind a column as a glass of gazpacho hits Maura, with Almodóvar directing.
Martirio without her sunglasses
A large-format portrait from her 1991 session for La bola de la vida del amor, caught when she briefly took off her black glasses; she allowed it for this show only.
Carlos Berlanga as Gala
Berlanga dressed as Dalí's wife, posed after Dalí's picture of Gala seen from behind, for a Marie Claire feature; never published before, it is now the show's poster.
Banderas and the cymbal
Antonio Banderas balances a cymbal on one finger and holds the pose for the camera.
Rosenvinge and de la Nuez in a field
Christina Rosenvinge and Álex de la Nuez pose with their guitars out in an open field.
You want to get out of the weather: the prints hang on an outside wall of the square.
