Kyoto International Manga Museum

Japan's first museum and library devoted to manga, founded in 2006 as a joint project of Kyoto City and Kyoto Seika University. Its collection of about 300,000 items runs from Edo-period caricature prints to prewar magazines, postwar rental books and translated editions from abroad. It occupies the preserved Showa-era building of the former Tatsuike Elementary School, where visitors can browse the Wall of Manga, see the main "What is Manga?" gallery and rotating special exhibitions, and watch kamishibai performances.
