Fruitmarket has shown contemporary art in Edinburgh since 1974, in a former fruit and vegetable market built in 1938 on Market Street next to Waverley Station. A 2021 expansion by Reiach and Hall added the adjoining Warehouse, a former fruit warehouse and nightclub, doubling the exhibition space. It stages major solo shows by Scottish and international artists, plus talks, book launches and workshops, and entry to exhibitions is free. Its acclaimed bookshop and café open earlier than the galleries.
