Prater Galerie

ArtOpens 12pmFreeEberswalder Straße (U2)

Founded in 1967 as the Galerie am Prater, this municipal gallery of the Pankow district was one of East Berlin's key venues for contemporary art, where staff of the GDR's Centre for Art Exhibitions came to select and acquire work. After years of renovation it reopened on 3 September 2026 in the Prater on Kastanienallee, a 19th-century beer garden and entertainment venue that now also houses a Volksbühne stage. Its programme looks at East Berlin's art history and at contemporary art from Eastern Europe, and every exhibition and event is free.
