iKunstmuseum Basel holds the oldest publicly accessible art collection in the world, rooted in the Amerbach Cabinet bought by the city in 1661. The Hauptbau of 1936 and the Neubau across St. Alban-Graben, opened in 2016, together show works from the late Middle Ages to the present, with a large Holbein holding, Swiss and German painting, Impressionism, Cubism and postwar art. Both buildings share one website and ticket, and the Gegenwart venue for contemporary art is a separate site nearby.
