Galleria Doria Pamphilj

ArtHistoryClosed todayFrom €16Piazza Venezia (bus & tram hub)

The Galleria Doria Pamphilj is one of Rome's great private art collections, still owned by the princely Doria Pamphilj family and displayed in their lavish palace just off Piazza Venezia. Assembled since the 16th century, it fills gilded state rooms and a mirror-lined gallery with masterpieces by Velázquez, Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian and Bernini. Its centrepiece is Velázquez's unflinching Portrait of Pope Innocent X, shown beside Bernini's marble bust of the same pope. An included audio guide, narrated by a member of the family, leads visitors through the apartments, chapel and gallery wings.
