Founded in 1990 by collector Roberto Memmo, the Fondazione Memmo occupies the ground floor and former stables (scuderie) of the 16th-century Palazzo Ruspoli in Rome's historic centre. After decades of acclaimed antiquity and Old Master exhibitions, in 2012 it relaunched with a programme devoted entirely to contemporary art. Today it commissions site-specific solo shows by emerging and established international artists, alongside performances, residencies and the annual "Conversation Piece" group exhibition mapping Rome's art scene. Admission is free.
