Chiostro del Bramante

ArtClosed todayFrom €19Rinascimento (bus, Corso del Rinascimento)

Designed by Donato Bramante around 1500 for Cardinal Oliviero Carafa, this elegant two-storey cloister beside the church of Santa Maria della Pace is one of Rome's first High Renaissance buildings. Today it stages major temporary art exhibitions across its upper galleries, wrapped around a serene central courtyard with a much-loved café and bookshop. From the first-floor Sala delle Sibille, a specially adapted window reveals Raphael's luminous fresco of the four Sibyls, painted around 1515.
