Founded in 1794, the Musée des Arts et Métiers is one of the world's oldest museums of science and industry, holding the collection of the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers. Around 2,500 instruments, machines and models are displayed across seven themed sections, from scientific instruments to transport, energy and communication. Highlights include Foucault's pendulum, Lavoisier's laboratory, Pascal's calculating machine and Clément Ader's aircraft, which hangs in the former priory church of Saint-Martin-des-Champs.
