The Maison Européenne de la Photographie is Paris's foremost institution devoted to contemporary photography, housed in the elegant Hôtel Hénault de Cantobre (1706) in the Marais. Opened in 1996, it stages three or four exhibition cycles a year, drawing on a collection of some 20,000 works alongside major international shows. The building also holds a 24,000-volume library, an auditorium, a café and a video viewing room.
