The Neue Galerie New York is dedicated to early twentieth-century German and Austrian art and design, founded in 2001 by art dealer Serge Sabarsky and philanthropist Ronald S. Lauder. It occupies the William Starr Miller House, a 1914 Beaux-Arts mansion on Museum Mile designed by Carrere and Hastings. Highlights include Gustav Klimt's Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (the "Woman in Gold"), works by Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Wiener Werkstaette decorative arts. The Viennese-style Cafe Sabarsky completes the experience.
