The Brooklyn Museum is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States, housed in a monumental Beaux-Arts building designed by McKim, Mead & White and opened in 1897. Its encyclopedic collection of around 500,000 objects spans a world-renowned trove of ancient Egyptian art, American and European painting, African and Asian art, and contemporary work. It is also home to the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, built around Judy Chicago's landmark installation The Dinner Party.
