The Wende Museum (German for "turning point") was founded in 2002 by scholar Justinian Jampol to preserve Cold War-era material culture at risk of being lost after 1989. Its archive of more than 100,000 objects covers the Eastern Bloc and socialist states, with strengths in Solidarity-movement materials from Poland, East German artifacts, Soviet Jewish activism ephemera, and thousands of films. Since 2017 the museum has occupied a converted 1949 U.S. National Guard armory in Culver City, expanded in 2024 with a new three-story community center, and pairs its historical holdings with rotating contemporary art exhibitions on dissent and human rights. Admission is free.
