iThe National Tile Museum tells the story of the azulejo, Portugal's glazed tile, from the late 15th century to today, alongside ceramics, porcelain and faience. It occupies the former Madre de Deus Convent, founded in 1509 by Queen Leonor, whose Mannerist cloister, gilded high choir and richly decorated church are part of the visit. Highlights include the Great Panorama of Lisbon, a tile view of the city before the 1755 earthquake. The museum has been closed since November 2025 for renovation works under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with no confirmed reopening date.
