Opened in October 2019 in Saga-Arashiyama, the Fukuda Art Museum holds about 2,000 Japanese paintings from the Edo period to the early 20th century, with a strong focus on the Kyoto circle of painters such as Itō Jakuchū and Maruyama Ōkyo. There is no permanent display: the collection appears in themed exhibitions that change several times a year, and the museum closes between shows. The machiya-inspired building has storehouse-style galleries, a shallow water basin mirroring Arashiyama, and a café looking onto Togetsukyō Bridge.
