Teen artists from the ICA's Teen Exhibitions Program explore sonder, the realization that every life is as complex as one's own. Teen Gallery, Seaport Studio.
The postcard for this show is a drawing by Maya D., one of the teenagers who chose what hangs here. Sonder was organised by the ICA's Teen Exhibitions Program, a group of Boston-area teens who plan, curate and install the Teen Gallery, and another member, Erika M., wrote the wall text.
The title is the word for realising that every stranger's life is as complex as your own. Teens from across the ICA's programs show work in a range of mediums, each piece meant as a window into one artist's circumstances. The credits name six teen artists and more than a dozen teen organisers. You can take it in from the couches spread around the room.
It isn't in the museum building. The Teen Gallery is on the second floor of Seaport Studio, 100 Pier 4 Blvd, shared with the teen show Coloring Book, and opens only Tuesday to Thursday, 2 to 5 pm, or by appointment through teens@icaboston.org.
You can only visit on a weekend: the Teen Gallery opens Tuesday to Thursday afternoons only.
Seaport Studio is wheelchair and stroller accessible, though doors have no power assist, and there are couches throughout the Teen Gallery.
