Édifié en 1898 par Joseph Maria Olbrich comme le manifeste architectural du mouvement de la Sécession viennoise, ce cube blanc surmonté d'un dôme de feuilles de laurier arbore toujours la célèbre devise : « À chaque époque son art, à chaque art sa liberté ». Aujourd'hui géré par des artistes, ce lieu d'exposition dédié à la scène contemporaine internationale accueille plusieurs expositions personnelles en parallèle. Au sous-sol, la Frise Beethoven (1902) de Gustav Klimt est présentée de manière permanente.
