Deuxième site viennois de l'Albertina inauguré en 2020, Albertina Modern a pris ses quartiers dans l'édifice historiciste du Künstlerhaus sur la Karlsplatz, érigé en 1865, puis restauré et agrandi entre 2017 et 2020. Riche d'une collection de plus de 60 000 œuvres signées par quelque 5 000 artistes — dont le fonds de la Essl Collection —, le musée déploie de vastes expositions temporaires d'art moderne et contemporain sur plus de 2 000 m². La création autrichienne y occupe une place prépondérante, portée par d'importants ensembles consacrés à Maria Lassnig, Franz West, Erwin Wurm ou VALIE EXPORT, aux côtés de figures majeures de la scène internationale comme Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein et Anselm Kiefer.
