Fondé en 1870 et installé depuis 1909 dans son édifice d'Huntington Avenue conçu par Guy Lowell, le MFA abrite plus de 450 000 objets, de l'Antiquité à nos jours. Inaugurée en 2010, l'aile Art of the Americas déploie sur quatre niveaux peintures, sculptures et arts décoratifs, de l'orfèvrerie précolombienne à Copley, Sargent et O'Keeffe. Forte de plus de 115 000 pièces, la collection asiatique rassemble le fonds d'art japonais le plus remarquable et le plus vaste hors du Japon, tandis que les galeries égyptiennes et nubiennes mettent en valeur les découvertes issues des fouilles menées par le musée à Gizeh. Des nocturnes sont proposées les jeudis et vendredis jusqu'à 22 h, et l'entrée est à tarif libre le troisième jeudi de chaque mois dès 17 h.

The Huntington Avenue main entrance has ramps on either side of the stairs and power-assist doors; the Linde Family Wing entrance on Museum Road offers a level entrance for visitors who need one. Wheelchairs and gallery stools available to borrow free. Service dogs welcome. The State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance is currently closed.
