O edifício principal do Wien Museum na Karlsplatz, projetado por Oswald Haerdtl na década de 1950, reabriu a 6 de dezembro de 2023 após uma profunda renovação e ampliação assinada por Certov, Winkler + Ruck, que acrescentou dois pisos e um novo pavilhão de entrada. A sua exposição permanente gratuita, «Wien. Meine Geschichte», percorre a história de Viena ao longo de três pisos e 1700 objetos, desde os primeiros povoados até à atualidade. Entre os grandes destaques contam-se o retrato de Emilie Flöge pintado por Gustav Klimt em 1902, uma maquete de cinco metros da Catedral de São Estêvão e Poldi, a emblemática baleia de dez metros do Prater. O último piso acolhe exposições temporárias e um café com acesso a um terraço panorâmico de entrada livre sobre o centro da cidade.
