Erguido em 1898 por Joseph Maria Olbrich como manifesto do grupo de artistas da Secessão de Viena, este cubo branco encimado por uma cúpula de folhas de louro ostenta ainda o célebre lema: «A cada época a sua arte, à arte a sua liberdade». Hoje, funciona como um espaço de exposições gerido pelos próprios artistas e dedicado à arte contemporânea internacional, acolhendo várias mostras individuais em simultâneo. No piso inferior, encontra-se em exposição permanente o Friso de Beethoven (1902), obra-prima de Gustav Klimt.
