Fundada pelo duque Albert von Sachsen-Teschen em 1776, a sua coleção reúne cerca de 65.000 desenhos e um milhão de gravuras de mestres clássicos, desde a célebre Jovem Lebre de Dürer até às obras de Leonardo. Erguido sobre o antigo baluarte dos Agostinhos, o palácio acolhe ainda 20 sumptuosos salões de aparato dos Habsburgos meticulosamente restaurados e a Coleção Batliner, dedicada à arte moderna de Monet a Picasso. Grandes exposições temporárias de desenho, pintura e fotografia têm lugar ao longo de todo o ano.
