Le National Archives Museum prend place au sein du monumental édifice néoclassique conçu en 1935 par John Russell Pope sur Constitution Avenue. C'est sous la coupole de sa Rotunda que sont conservées les Charters of Freedom, les chartes de la liberté : les manuscrits originaux de la Déclaration d'indépendance, de la Constitution et du Bill of Rights. À leurs côtés figurent un exemplaire original de la Magna Carta de 1297 au sein de la David M. Rubenstein Gallery, ainsi que The American Story, une galerie permanente inaugurée en novembre 2025 qui s'appuie sur l'IA pour inviter chaque visiteur à explorer des millions de documents d'archives. Un Discovery Center destiné au jeune public ainsi que l'espace d'exposition temporaire « Opening the Vault », dévoilant des trésors rarement montrés, complètent la visite. L'entrée est gratuite.
