Conçu par Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt et achevé en 1723 pour servir de résidence d'été d'apparat au prince Eugène de Savoie, l'Upper Belvedere domine les jardins baroques qui descendent vers le Lower Belvedere. Il abrite aujourd'hui le parcours permanent du Belvédère, « Picture this! », qui s'étend de Cranach à Maria Lassnig. Parmi ses chefs-d'œuvre figurent Le Baiser de Gustav Klimt, des toiles d'Egon Schiele ainsi que les célèbres Têtes de caractère de Franz Xaver Messerschmidt. La Carlone Hall du palais accueille quant à elle des installations d'art contemporain temporaires.
