Édifié à partir de 1712 par Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt pour servir de résidence au prince Eugène de Savoie, le Lower Belvedere s'élève au bas des jardins du Belvedere. Ses salles d'apparat baroques, parmi lesquelles la Hall of Grotesques, la Marble Gallery et le Gold Cabinet, côtoient des espaces d'exposition, l'Orangery et les Palace Stables, où le musée du Belvedere organise ses expositions temporaires. Les anciennes écuries abritent également la Gallery Middle Ages and Renaissance, qui présente notamment des chefs-d'œuvre tels que le retable de Salzbourg de Rueland Frueauf the Elder.
