A Renwick Gallery é o polo do Smithsonian American Art Museum dedicado ao artesanato contemporâneo e às artes decorativas, situado na Lafayette Square, a apenas um quarteirão da White House. James Renwick Jr. projetou o edifício em 1859 para o banqueiro William Wilson Corcoran no estilo Segundo Império, inspirado nas ampliações do Louvre que tanto admirava. Foi o primeiro edifício nos Estados Unidos construído de raiz para ser um museu de arte; sobre a entrada principal ainda se lê a inscrição «Dedicated to Art», e o senador Charles Sumner batizou-o de «o Louvre americano». Salvo da demolição em 1962 por uma campanha liderada por Jacqueline Kennedy e reaberto em 1972 como espaço do Smithsonian, apresenta criações têxteis, cerâmica, vidro, metal e madeira de artesãos e artistas norte-americanos ao longo de dois pisos, tendo o Grand Salon como ponto central. A entrada é gratuita. Nota: o edifício encontra-se temporariamente encerrado ao público até 13 de novembro de 2026 para a montagem da exposição Trabalho Manual: Artesanato Contemporâneo na Renwick Gallery (Handwork: Contemporary Craft at the Renwick Gallery).
