Inaugurado em 2001, o Leopold Museum nasceu da coleção reunida por Rudolf e Elisabeth Leopold ao longo de cinco décadas, fundada em conjunto com a República da Áustria e o Oesterreichische Nationalbank. As suas mais de 5.000 obras centram-se na arte austríaca da primeira metade do século XX, desde a Secessão até ao Expressionismo. O museu acolhe a maior coleção mundial de Egon Schiele, com mais de 220 obras, ao lado de pinturas fundamentais de Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka e Richard Gerstl. A aclamada exposição permanente "Viena 1900: O Nascimento do Modernismo" (Vienna 1900: Birth of Modernism) contextualiza estas criações entre o mobiliário, o design e as correntes de pensamento da época.
