Fundada em 1992 por Adolf Krischanitz num contentor amarelo provisório na Karlsplatz, a Kunsthalle Wien é o espaço de exposições de arte contemporânea da cidade de Viena. Sem coleção própria, dedica-se a apresentar mostras temporárias de artistas internacionais e vienenses. Desde 2001, a sua sede principal localiza-se no MuseumsQuartier, no antigo Picadeiro de Inverno imperial ampliado pela Ortner & Ortner, dispondo ainda de um segundo pavilhão de vidro na Karlsplatz.
