O número 55 da Mount Vernon Street é uma das quatro casas geminadas de tijolos atribuídas a Charles Bulfinch, erguidas em 1804 pelo político Jonathan Mason para suas filhas. Trata-se do exemplar mais bem preservado do conjunto, em estilo Federal, com um pórtico neogrego incorporado na década de 1830. O Dr. Arthur Nichols e sua esposa Elizabeth adquiriram o imóvel em 1885, e sua filha mais velha, Rose Standish Nichols — paisagista, escritora, sufragista e pacifista —, residiu aqui até sua morte em 1960, legando a residência para ser aberta ao público como museu em 1961. Os aposentos de época refletem os gostos pessoais da família e reúnem móveis de Boston, tapeçarias flamengas, cerâmicas chinesas e um busto em bronze dourado de Victory, de Augustus Saint-Gaudens, além de peças do cotidiano, como um rádio de 1936. A casa só pode ser conhecida mediante visita guiada e estende-se por três andares, sem elevador.
