Construída entre 1859 e 1860 com projeto de Edward Clarke Cabot, a Gibson House foi uma das primeiras residências a erguer-se nos recém-aterrados terrenos de Back Bay — uma casa geminada de inspiração neorrenascentista italiana, em arenito castanho e tijolo vermelho. Três gerações da família Gibson e os seus empregados domésticos viveram no número 137 da Beacon Street entre 1859 e 1954. O último residente, Charles Hammond Gibson Jr., legou o edifício e todo o seu recheio para criar um museu, inaugurado em 1957. O resultado é um interior vitoriano excecionalmente autêntico, que conserva papéis de parede, têxteis, móveis e pertences da família originais ao longo de cinco pisos. Classificada como Boston Landmark em 1992 e National Historic Landmark em 2001, a casa só pode ser visitada através de visita guiada.
