Fundado em 1913, o Boston Children's Museum é o segundo museu infantil mais antigo dos Estados Unidos e ocupa sua sede à beira-mar no Children's Wharf, junto ao Fort Point Channel, desde 1979. Na esplanada exterior ergue-se o Hood Milk Bottle, uma sorveteria de madeira com 12 metros de altura e quase 7 toneladas, construída em Taunton em 1933 e instalada no local em 1977 — um dos pontos de referência mais curiosos de Boston. No interior, três andares de exposições interativas vão desde o New Balance Foundation Climb, uma escultura de escalada de três andares criada pela Luckey Climber originalmente para o museu em 1985, até à Kyo-no-Machiya, uma autêntica casa de comerciantes de seda de Kyoto com dois andares, doada pela cidade-irmã de Boston e montada no local por carpinteiros japoneses. As exposições abrangem ciência, engenharia, arte, cultura, saúde e brincadeiras para a primeira infância, com áreas especialmente dedicadas a crianças com menos de três anos.
