Inaugurée en 1968, la Neue Nationalgalerie est l'ultime réalisation de Ludwig Mies van der Rohe : un vaste hall de verre sous un toit d'acier flottant, surplombant les espaces d'exposition en sous-sol. Après une rénovation magistrale signée David Chipperfield, le musée a rouvert ses portes en 2021. Le niveau inférieur abrite la collection d'art du XXe siècle de la Nationalgalerie — de l'expressionnisme et du Berlin des années 1920 jusqu'à l'après-guerre à l'Est comme à l'Ouest —, tandis que la halle vitrée accueille des expositions temporaires d'envergure.
