An encore hang of 20 vintage prints by MGM's in-house glamour portraitist — Garbo, Harlow, Crawford, Gable and Dietrich, lit to look immortal.

Greta Garbo, 1930: a dark coat lined with white fur, head slightly tilted, eyes somewhere past you, one chandelier earring catching the light. George Hurrell, MGM's head portrait photographer, made pictures like this for theaters and fan magazines, and they set what Hollywood glamour looked like.

This is the encore: 20 vintage prints from the 1930s and 40s, a new pick from the museum's 70 Hurrells after the first round closed in January 2026. You walk past faces lit like sculpture. Dorothy Lamour's eyelashes cast their own shadows, Myrna Loy glows in satin against a dark wall, and Dietrich appears twice, once in a gown and once stone-faced with a cigarette. Hurrell said the glamour left when the 8 x 10 cameras did, which your phone's portrait mode is still trying to undo.

It's one compact installation, free with no timed tickets, open daily 11:30am to 7pm until 10 January 2027.

  • Garbo in white fur

Look for Garbo in 1930, in a dark coat lined with white fur, head tilted and gaze far away, with one chandelier earring glinting.

  • Dorothy Lamour's eyelashes

A close-up in billowing chiffon and lace where her long, spidery eyelashes throw shadows on her face and her fingernails are dark and pointed.

  • Two Marlene Dietrichs

In one she leans in a slinky gown, a hand thrown back against a corrugated pillar; in the other she is stone-faced in a collared shirt and sweater, cigarette dangling.

  • William Powell at the blinds

The Thin Man star stands in a dark suit with tie and pocket square, hands on a chair back, light slipping through window blinds behind him.

  • Pickford and Rogers' wedding portrait

Mary Pickford and Charles "Buddy" Rogers in 1937, photographed as newlyweds and washed in soft light.
