Construido entre 1877 y 1881 por Martin Gropius y Heino Schmieden como museo de artes aplicadas de Berlín, el Gropius Bau sufrió graves daños en 1945 y reabrió sus puertas en 1981 tras una profunda restauración. Gestionado en la actualidad por los Berliner Festspiele, no alberga una colección permanente: organiza grandes exposiciones temporales y performances de artistas contemporáneos. En la planta baja, BAUBAU, concebido por Kerstin Brätsch, ofrece un espacio de juego infantil con entrada libre.
