O Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts é o único edifício na América do Norte concebido pelo arquiteto de origem suíça Le Corbusier, em colaboração com o arquiteto chileno Guillermo Jullian de la Fuente; foi inaugurado em 1963. Uma rampa de betão em forma de S eleva os visitantes a partir da Quincy Street e conduz-los através do terceiro piso, passando pelas janelas dos ateliês — a tentativa de Le Corbusier de transformar a "síntese das artes" em pura circulação. Hoje, o Carpenter Center apresenta uma programação de arte contemporânea distribuída pelas galerias Level 1, Level 3 e Sert Gallery, com obras comissionadas, publicações, eventos públicos e residências artísticas, tudo com entrada livre e aberto ao público.
