Erguido entre 1877 e 1881 por Martin Gropius e Heino Schmieden para acolher o museu de artes aplicadas de Berlim, o Gropius Bau sofreu graves danos em 1945 e reabriu as portas em 1981, após um minucioso restauro. Gerido hoje pelos Berliner Festspiele, o espaço não tem coleção permanente: apresenta grandes exposições temporárias e performances de criadores contemporâneos. No rés do chão, o BAUBAU de Kerstin Brätsch oferece uma área lúdica de acesso gratuito para crianças.
