Gestito dalla Generalitat de Catalunya e inaugurato nel 1996, il Museu d'Història de Catalunya occupa il Palau de Mar, gli ex Magazzini Generali e l’unico edificio ancora conservato dell’antico porto industriale di Barcellona. La mostra permanente interattiva La memoria di un Paese (The Memory of a Country) ripercorre otto periodi della storia catalana, dalle origini preistoriche e dalla Tarraco romana fino alla Guerra civile, alla dittatura e ai giorni nostri. Il programma è completato da mostre temporanee, visite guidate e attività per famiglie.
