La sede del Museu d'Història de Barcelona (MUHBA) in Plaça del Rei, nucleo originario del museo fin dalla sua fondazione nel 1943, si trova all’interno di un monumentale complesso medievale nel Quartiere Gotico. Nel sottosuolo, i visitatori percorrono le strade della Barcino romana oltrepassando le mura cittadine, tra botteghe e impianti artigianali come una lavanderia e tintoria del II secolo, una fabbrica per la salagione del pesce e una cantina, oltre ai resti del primo complesso episcopale cristiano. In superficie si trovano il Palau Reial Major, il Saló del Tinell del XIV secolo e la Capella de Santa Àgata, con la pala d’altare di Jaume Huguet; la gotica Casa Padellàs ospita invece la mostra di sintesi 'Barcelona Flashback'. Il MUHBA gestisce inoltre una rete di altri siti del patrimonio storico in tutta la città, tra cui il Temple d’August, El Call, il rifugio antiaereo Refugi 307, i bunker del Turó de la Rovira ed El Born.
