Le Seoul Museum of History retrace les transformations de la ville, de Hanyang, capitale sous la dynastie Joseon, à la République de Corée moderne, en passant par l’Empire coréen et la période de domination coloniale japonaise. Ses galeries permanentes abritent quelque 250 000 objets, dont environ la moitié ont été donnés par des habitants, ainsi qu’une maquette de la ville à grande échelle et des installations multimédias qui imaginent le Séoul de demain. Le musée se trouve à côté de Gyeonghuigung Palace, dans le quartier central de Jongno-gu, et accueille régulièrement des expositions temporaires gratuites consacrées à la photographie, à l’histoire urbaine et à la culture matérielle de Séoul.
